Taylor is the Leon Forrest Professor of African American Studies at Northwestern and an acclaimed scholar of racism and inequality in housing policies in the United States. Her award-winning books include “From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation” and “Race for Profit: How Banks and the Real Estate Industry Undermined Black Homeownership.” A 2020 Freedom Scholar, 2021 Guggenheim Fellow and 2021 MacArthur Fellow, she is also a contributing writer for The New Yorker.
Seeking to inspire attendees to think about their collective futures and refuse what Taylor has referred to as "housing under capitalism," Cheryl I. Harris of UCLA Law and Marques Vestal of UCLA Urban Planning will join Taylor in a discussion moderated by Professor Ananya Roy, founding director of the UCLA Luskin Institute on Inequality and Democracy which is co-sponsoring the event to inaugurate its Distinguished Lecture in Ideas and Organizing series.
